He asked a question I couldn’t answer!
I am currently recording a photography course. Once I am done, you will be the first one to know. I am excited about it. I was at an event yesterday where I presented my short film to the film community. Afterwards, when I spoke about my course, a person asked me how my course would be different from thousands of courses that are already online. I must admit, although I knew the answer, I wasn’t prepared for that question. I told him that the courses I have seen online are primarily about people reading off a PowerPoint presentation and that they lack human touch and interaction. Although I am using slides as well, I am not reading. There are lots of practicals. I share my good, bad and ugly photos, have heart-to-heart chats without presentations, and speak freely to share as much knowledge as possible. I am also inviting guest photographers to the course to learn from their experiences. You will have access to all you need to know in one place in a sequence, and it will also be community-based learning with interaction at a personal level. I didn’t think about one aspect: it will have “me” and “you” in it.
I am not the best photographer, but I am “me”. What I bring to the table is unique; there’s only one “me” in this world. With all my strengths and weaknesses as a person and photographer, nobody can offer what I have in me, how I see the world and take its photos. I don’t believe saying this makes me arrogant or full of myself, but it’s a humbling experience and a huge responsibility. I am proud of my work because I have tried to inspire people with nature and places. Therefore, it becomes my duty to transfer that knowledge. Yes, I will charge money for it because I have to make a living, but I believe that the community and family I want to build also have a purpose beyond money matters. That’s the part where “you” comes in because people who subscribe to the course will bring in their unique perspectives and knowledge that will benefit others and me.
Now that I have reread what I wrote above, I feel like I am giving myself an explanation of why I should buy this course. I guess this letter is written more for me than for you. But I still want to share it with you because I told you I am here to bring you along on this journey. Have I given you food for thought by sharing this inner struggle? This is what I, a photographer, solo filmmaker, and writer, must consider in order to do what I want for life and also make a living because money is an object.
On that note, could you please answer two questions for me? It should take no more than thirty seconds. You don’t have to log in to Google, even if it asks you; just select a choice and press submit! Click here.
