The Two Whose Pride Should Matter The Most To You!
WHO ARE THOSE TWO PEOPLE?
I always tell myself, and others, that I don’t want to look back at my life and say that I didn’t give it my best shot! In one of my favourite movies of all time, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, the magazine Life, that he works for, has a motto,
“To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life.”
I endeavour to live by it within my means, and that’s one reason I resigned from my job. I also realised today that it’s not just about making your future self proud but also your younger self. These are the only two people whose pride should genuinely matter to you.
Just two: The 10-year-old full of dreams and the 80-year-old full of memories. They are both watching you right now!
That child has hope, wondering if you are pursuing your passions and aspirations. For that child, success is not how the world views it, but rather about being brave and doing your best to achieve what you once believed in.
The old man has seen it all and knows that life passes in the blink of an eye.
Both want you to cherish the small moments and create more beautiful memories every day. They don’t want you to be lost and part of the rat race. They want you to remain true to yourself and what you believe in. They want you to inspire and explore and never be afraid of trying.
So, pause, and if both of them look at you with pride in this moment, if the child is smiling and the old man's contentment shows that the life was well lived, then you are a hero who can rest easy tonight.
