Dancing Houses and WC in Amsterdam
My mostly tourist and slightly work-related trip has wrapped up. I'm collecting my thoughts at Frankfurt Airport, enjoying a croissant and a coffee while a group of elderly ladies chat loudly nearby.
2 hours later…
STUCK IN AMSTERDAM? Yes, and No!
I am writing this part from Amsterdam. To put it briefly, I missed my connecting flight to Cape Town due to airline delays. The airline allowed me to stay in Amsterdam at their expense. While this has thrown off my plans to visit my granddaughter, there is also a silver lining.
The Silver Lining: I'm writing a paid article on using long exposures for time-lapse photography. I've mostly captured time-lapses in nature, but my experience in Amsterdam today taught me valuable tricks to include in my article. My compositions in this picturesque setting weren't ideal due to my lack of a tripod (I improvised using my camera bag). Also, the location from where I shot smelled like sh!T, well, it’s because I realised afterwards that the wall I was leaning against was a WC!
Lesson: I thought, “I am in Amsterdam and should make the most of it.” I shot videos and time-lapses. I enjoyed the weather and walked alongside the canal with Dancing Houses straight out of a fairytale. While thinking of my wife, I had a flat white, the best freshly baked scone, and a jam-and-butter combo.
Although stress-free, I sprinted through Amsterdam Airport to catch my flight knowing I had less than a 1% chance of catching it. I missed the flight by two minutes. The plane hadn’t moved an inch, and the passenger tunnel was still latched.
I made the most out of the situation, and so should you!
